Radhakrishnan Music: Sharath Producer: Ranjith and Maha Subair Director: Ranjith Released Date: September 19, 2008 Story: A refreshing tale, the story begins with Akbar Ahmed (Prithvi) who strikes gold at his debut venture as a film maker. However, his success is met with a lot of criticism since it happens to be a lift from a Hollywood venture. Now, Akbar wants to prove his mettle as a director and in this process he is in the lookout for a perfect script. Then he chances upon the idea of discovering the location of the actress Malavika (Priyamani) who was a rage during the 80s. However, her reign has been quite tragic after her affair with the then hero Ajaychandran (Anoop) and the eventual divorce. Akbar decides to get hold of Malavika and in this process he sets out with his girl friend Devayani (Samvrutha) and others. From then on he comes across various experiences in his search which gives him a reflection on many things. Is he successful in locating Malavika? What happens to his script? All this forms the rest of the story. Presentation: This is an interesting plot developed by the director who has been good in his presentation but then the narrative faltered at few places. The script was alright and the screenplay was competent but the dialogues were sometimes hazy, music was just about average but the camera was nice in capturing the various locations and settings. Editing is professional and the costume department deserves a special mention here. Prithvi has come up with a professional performance and Samvrutha was cheerful with her presence. The others like Mallika, Nandhu have done their roles well but the real show stealer is Ajay Chandran who seems to have got more than the hero himself. On par with his performance is Priyamani who has shown why she deserves the National award. Ranjith's cameo was effective. The others were just about okay. Conclusion: The film has been garnering a lot of attention given the buzz that the story has a lot to do with the real life story of a late south Indian actress. Truth or not, the film has been etched out well in terms of character and while the first half was more on a plain ground, the graph picks up with each minute and the second half is quite engrossing. There are no mass elements in the film and it gives an inside take on the glamour industry which has its own special features that impress. Commercially, the movie might fare with above average returns but it may not be a major hit. |
